Uva-usi (Bearberry) (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)
It is a small evergreen perennial shrub with leaves that are leathery, 2 cm long and 0.5 to 1cm wide. The leaves have a dark green upper surface and a pale under side.
Uva-ursi likes damp conditions and can be found growing in undergrowth, heath and grassland. The plant is native to Britain, Central and Northern Europe, and North America. Parts used: leaves, berries.
Uva-ursi has an antiseptic action on the urinary system. It is a mild diuretic (increases the flow of urine). It has an astringent (tightens mucous membranes and skin, thus, having a binding effect that reduces secretions) effect on the lower digestive tract.
